Atelier Thomas Schittek

Tiles

The work of Thomas Schittek, German painter for many years living in Portugal, is part of a personal current, which crosses alongside contemporary art, moving away from it by the refusal of a referential target approaching it by  the necessary questioning of his reading .

In fact, Thomas Schittek has a working method where the foundation, the design is the subject of systematic extreme, a record almost archival, evolving  the painting, using different techniques according to the objectives sought-expressive pastel, watercolor  and the tile, work of fire  the painter   so intensely dominates, not limited to painting, but working throughout the process of its craft production.

Coluna 6m x 1,05m x 1,24m,

It is this relationship with primordiality you can find one of the possibilities of reading the work of this artist. Having as a foundation of classical references  - the natural elements, landscape, figurative, Schittek approaching, slowly (and throughout the  work of the author has a slow   determinant character ) of the most basic formal elements in a regressive  process  in which  the basic geometric forms, the chromaticism and coloratura carry us into the realm of enjoyment of childhood, and invite the most primitive of looks: one who, marvelling, wonders.

We are clearly in the territory of the pleasure of establishing transported to the challenge of the pleasure of who appropriates.

Solar paint, so even when crossed by periods of darker shades. Painting (and tiles) from an artist, a movement so characteristic in the history of art, discovering  the South the fundamentals of his work.

Not coincidentally, in Schittek dominate the issues related to the sea, earth, sun, repeatedly using the large format.

For a child  a sheet of paper is also  enormous. Progressively, the painter has approached a sharper  picture , in a journey   of one coherence happily shaken by the ability to reformulate and constant exploration. Again the artist reveals the extent to which allows a possible return to childhood.

We are in, therefore, before a work marked by demand, not conceptualized but "found" of a period of time. Time to be happy. moving in a field of pictorial language but wider than the contemporaries, founded on tradition and having the desire to surprise characteristics of the modern, the work of Thomas Schittek spontaneously generates a desire first: try to be happy.
